A mistake was made…
A policy with the intent to stop illegal drug usage at championship games was released for the public to see. This has led to much speculation among athletes and ADs of the sport on social media. That is understandable as this policy was not clear in its statement or intent. For this we are sorry. We know this can be damaging to the sport and for those that already put in a lot of effort commonly at their own expense to make sure this sport not just succeeds but grows.
It was a concern in the past to not have the budget nor the knowledge of how to test athletes for PEDs. The budget has been handled and no athlete will have to pay for a test. We are now consulting with a medical doctor that manages a PED Policy for another sport, the board at Celtic Classic, and a well known Highland games coach with extensive experience in the testing process and its consequences.
The intent of this Performance Enhancing Drug Policy is to stop illegal drug usage. At the outset this policy will focus on a single particular set of PEDs, steroids and related hormone altering drugs. Testing will be focused on determining their usage and will outline what is looked at and at what levels will constitute a failure. This policy will be posted once it is confirmed with our consults that it is more beneficial and clear on the details.
To reiterate this is not meant to stop all steroid, or hormone altering medication, but to stop the illegal usage of related drugs. If you are under the care of a licensed medical professional a waiver will be made available. It must be filled out by the athlete and their Doctor or PA that has written the prescription. Then filed with our organization electronically. This will remove the athlete from being tested and meets the intent of the policy.
