Performance Enhancing Drug Policy

for SAI related championship events

In an effort to create a more equitable playing field for all athletes, SAI has adopted a no tolerance policy when it comes to the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs. We do understand that as Masters athletes some of you may currently be under a doctor's care and are taking certain medications that fall under the banned substance list. If you are such an individual, please request the Therapeutic Use Exemption paperwork well in advance of the games.

For those that are engaged in the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs to further your ability to compete at a high level, let this policy serve as a warning that SAI reserves the right to ask you to submit to testing at your cost. If you test negative, SAI will cover the cost of the test. If a World Record (WR) is set during any event at MWC, SAI may ask you to submit to a urine test that day. If the athlete refuses to test, SMAI will consider that refusal as an admission of use.

The penalty for being found to have used PED’s during the MWC, any WR set that day and all ranking for that world championship will be stripped from the athlete and placing within that age group will be reassigned. The athlete will also not be allowed to compete in another MWC for a period of two years.

A complete list of banned substances can be found on the following websites. SAI will expand the scope of testing to include all banned substances.
